So Long Classmates!!!!

So long, Far Well, Auf Wiedersehen, Goodbye!!!!!!!!!

Audios to all my fellow E.D.M. 310 classmates. I hope to see you again in other classes. I wish you all well in your lives and future careers.

P.L.E.

My P.L.E. has expanded so much since week six. I now know how to Skype, use Google Earth, and Google forms. Google Earth was very interesting because people can record different destination and also record their voices and talk about each location. I found Google Forms to be a great way to get quick information by creating surveys and e-mailing it to individuals. This would be great for teachers and general businesses. I have fallowed many blogs but my Comments 4 Teachers teacher, Dan Carver, was a great blog to read. Also my fellow classmate, Robbin Woodson's blog was also very interesting. I hope to keep expanding my person learning experience to keep up with technology because it will only help me in my future teaching career.

Final Post

*I have learn so much about blogs and how they work. I hope to continue to blog even in my future classroom.
*Also, we learned how to make a presentations using Google docs. I also did a presentation teaching some one how to use a Promethean Board and software. I will certainly be making a lot of history presentation using Google in my classroom.
*When we made our first presentation about us, We learn how to size up our pictures using Picasa and I was amazed on how easy it was.
*One of my favorite assignments was when we got to make our own podcasts. I had found it would be great when I am out one day and all my substitute would have to do is open my podcast and let me give the assignment.
* We used YouTube a lot in our blog assignments and I also learned how to embed it into my blog.
* One of the blog/posts I read was Dan Carver's blog on education. He has a real want and desire to educate. I hope I will have te same drive he has for his students.
*My Personal Learning Network has grown leaps and bounds from the time I first started this class. I want to keep expanding it because I know when I finally receive my degree my student will think the stuff I learned now is going to be "old school".
*Twitter was a really neat thing to learn because it is a faster way to keep up with people.
*To keep up with other teachers and students outside of our region I used Audacity to do teacher interviews with teachers in Birmingham. I also will use this tool for when I am out of class I still can communicate the assignment to them and explain it as well while the substitute over sees things.
*For comments4kids I was amazed it these students blogs and how well they were doing when using technology. I hope to use a blog to showcase my students work.
*Comments4classmates was also great because I was able to see what was going on in my classmates blog and see there thought on the assignment. I believe that my future students would find it interesting be able to comment on their classmate's work.
*Comments4teachers was interesting because I liked reading teacher's blogs and what they were doing in their classroom.
* iTunes and iTunes U were great tools to use when listening to podcasts of professors from outside the region.
*The use of html tag modifiers help people who are visually impaired to help them hear what the picture is about. I am so glad I learned how to do this because I may have students who are visually impaired an this tool may make them feel included.
*In my profession I hope to be a progressive teacher. This means I would like for my class to branch out of the classroom and do hands on activities rather than sitting in straight rows and taking notes while I lecture. That is not all children's learning style. Being a secondary social science teacher, I want to make history come alive to my students and for them not to regurgitate what I teach, but to truly understand the lesson.
* Google forms was a great way to get quick feed back from my peers on any issue I wanted information about.
*Google Earth was very exciting and one of my favorite things to do in this class. I will certainly use this in my social science class.
*Delicious is a great bookmarking tool which keeps all your websites organized and you can get to them quicker.
*I feel I am more technological literate than before taking this class. It has helped me tremendously to reach for a higher standard of learning.
*The future of schools I believe is more technology and less paper and pencil if we all work together we can transform education into something more interesting and fun for our students
* My intellectual trail, I believe, is and has been a good one. I look forward to expanding on what I learned in this class.

2. I would have like to play around more on the Promethean Board and learned more on it.

3. I thought the whole class, while tedious, was beneficial and will help me in my future classroom.
4. I really liked learning audacity because I have used it outside of this class. I have used it in my EDF 315 class doing a teacher interview.
5. I thought everything was rather interesting in this class
6. I thought some of the blogs were rather long and boring but for the most part they were very interesting. To correct this I might chose shorter videos.
7. I did not feel overworked in this class I felt that some things were confusing, but for the work load it was okay. I would take out twittering because I did not use it that much for this class or in my future profession.
8. I feel that I am more technologically literate more so that when I started this class. I feel I can always improve on my knowledge of technology, but for right now I am at the "good" stage.
9. I want to keep blogging and expand my knowledge on teaching technologies (like smart/Promethean Boards).

April 18 Post

I think I got a little out of sync with the blog assisgnments. This week is for me to talk about somethingthat I have found interesting in E.D.M. 310. One thing I found interesting was that I learned how to use Audacity which is a sound recording site that we used for our podcasts. I actually used Audacity to interview a teacher in Birmingham by using my speaker phone device on my telephone. This made it conveient for both me and the teacher. In the future I will use Audacity for when i'm absent from my classroom and my students can still hear my voice and I can give the assignment and explane it rather than the substitute. This was one of my favorite things in the class so far.

April 25 post

It's sad to say that this seventh grader's P.L.E. puts mine to shame. It does make me want to learn more about how she created her P.L.E. From January to May, I can say, that I have learned so much more than I imagined I would when I entered this class. I hope to keep pushing myself to learn more technology for my student's future education.

What Will Be My Sentence?

This video does in fact make you put in perspective where your life is and where your life is going. I hope my sentence will be about how I changed the reputation of social science and how I made it more interesting for students to understand and appreciation for history.

Zax/P22

Comments 4 Kids
Here is my comment to Kayla: "I loved your camping story! Rock climbing sounded really exicting and so did the cake baking. Keep up the great work!"

Both of these videos are very interesting and are true for teacher's work ethic. The Dr. Seuss Zax cartoon was very humorous and true for so many of today's teachers. Tenure is a great thing to have for a sense of security of teachers, but so many teachers shut down after about 5 years and seem to be in a rut from then on out. This turns them into creatures like the Zax, they don't want to make change while so many wonderful things like technology grows around them. This would be a great video to watch at the beginning year faculty meetings for teachers. This P22video made me want to become a music teacher after hearing those children sing! If you read into the song, it may remind you on how some teachers may be nervous about technology comming to their classroom.

My Time Toast Timeline!

Skype

This week I finally used Skype to see and talk to my mother in Birmingham. This was also the first time she ever used Skype also. I really enjoyed using Skype and will continually use it in the future to keep in touch with my family and friends that live in northern Alabama. This was a great experience.

Week 13 /April 11th

I think blogging student's work, if it is approved by the parent and the school, would be beneficial to show the internet world what your are doing in your classroom. I personally feel that when you post student's work on the internet (blog) it should be anonymous just for safety reasons.

Comments 4 kids
This week I read a story about a girl named Karen in New Zealand(I believe). She wrote about going to Australia and how it was very hot. She really liked her Mum's friend's house because it had an air conditioner. The story was very descriptive and interesting.

Comments 4 Teachers
This was my comment to Dan Carver:
I am still working on my degree in secondary ed. and believe that this profession does not need to be beaten down with testing, and the overwhelming stress level when testing comes around each year. I couldn't imagine worrying about if my student's test scores aren't "just right" that my teacher evaluation will be effected. Still loving the blog! Keep up the good work! :)

Teacher Interview

I interviewed teacher from the Birmingham area. He is history teacher and his focus is on government. I learned so much from this teacher. Even though he has only been teaching for a few years he is very knowledgeable in his field of study. One of the questions I asked him was about Professional development and if there was enough training for medical emergencies? He said there was not a lot of training for teachers because they had a nurse in a separate building at the school. He thought that every teacher needed to have a basic knowledge of medical training. Another question I asked was about the demographics at this school. He answered by saying most of the students at his school were about 98% white. The school is established in a very rural area and most of the students don't get a chance to interact with other ethnicities. I also asked him about unions and what role they play in the school system. He responded by saying they give teachers some protection against law suits and anyother infridgements. They also are teacher's advocates when it comes to government decisions on education.

Promethean Board Instructional

This is an written instructional on how to use a Promethean Board
1)The first thing you need to do is to get registered on Promethean Planet
2)The next thing is to explore the site and do the tutorials on how to find and create flip charts
3)What Are Flip Chart? Flip charts are Not your average paper flipping devise. On a Promethean Board, flip charts a computerized slides that a interactive and make learning a lot more interesting
4) No Need For Chalk!!! Promethean Boards use a computerized pen or wand to write anything you wish on the board.
5)Now that you know the basics of the board, I will now explain how to teach with the Promethean Board
6) When you create or find what flip chart you want for your lesson plan for the day you then can take it from Promethean Planet and put it in you Promethean software that is on your computer( this software will look like what is on the board)
7) When you explore your Promethean software you will find there are many kinds if tools to the right of the screen. These tools are there to enhance your flip chart. Some examples of these include: maps, math tools, games, diagrams, ect.
I hope that this instructional tutorial helps you when you get to teach with one of these Wonderful boards!!!

Copy of my comment for Andy, a ELT professional
Hi!
My name is Monica and I am in Dr. Strange’s EDM 310 class at the University of South Alabama. I really enjoyed reading your latest post. It really sounded like it was a great weekend of learning and professional development. Great Post!

Comments 4Kids
This week I left a comment to Kahui, a student form New Zealand. He talked about going to the park and drew a picture of the park he went to.

Regular blog assignment
This week's blog assignment was about Mr. Chamberlain's blog post on a child named Kaia and how he communicated with her and her father. His blog showed how his class used voice treads to make communicating a lot better with a child that could not read quit yet. This type of technology has opened many doors for not only kids that can't quit read yet, but for the adult that can't read or people with disabilities. I think using this type of technology will be great for everyone.

The next blog I read was Kaia's father's blog and how the concern was about letting small children on the internet. This is my concern during this whole process of learning technology in this class. I feel that while technology is the future and it does make learning more interesting; do we take it to far? I know there are certain security measures that teachers can take to make sure that they're students identities are protected. However, there are so many internet 'scum" out there that can find out anything they want. I believe that if you want to give a child a blog I think it should be between that child and there parents.

Comments 4 Kids/Comment 4 Teachers

Comments 4 Kids
I read a student essay about animal testing written by a student named Anna, and I told her that she had a good argument against testing on animals. Also, she used correct grammar and had a very good introduction and conclusion.

Comments 4 Teachers
I read Dan Carver's blog this week. He is new to the blogging world, but has a fantastic first post. He says there is a shortage of teachers who don't talk about what they are doing in their classroom. I have to agree with him on this subject. I don't know if it is a time management problem or if teachers want to keep to themselves what's going on. I believe he will have a successful blog.

March 28

I think Ms. Bayda's post was right on the money! She pointed out key points in education. I am so tired of having a professor stand in front of me and lecture facts upon facts for me just to sit there and scribble down only about 20% of what they said(editorial comment). We need to have a new wave of revolution towards education because if we don't embrase technology in education, tradional education will be a thing of the past.

Week 9 Post

ALEX
This week I studied the ends and outs of of the Alabama Learning Exchange (ALEX). This site was very interesting in that its focus is on educators sharing ideas and lessons plans. ALEX provides links for teachers, administrators, and students. Also, the site offers course of study for all subject areas. If you go to the site it starts by giving you eight different choses(course of study, web links, lesson plans, search, personal workplace, professional learning, pod cast treasury, and help).
I was very intrigued by the site. I noticed that when I become a teacher it will help me to see what other educators from all over the state are doing in their classrooms. I also think it is a great site of teachers because it goes by the Alabama Course of Study. I will definitely use this site!

Week 8 Post

Comments 4 kids
This week I read a post from a student named Alexis. She was concerned about her brother being mean to her. I really didn't know how to comment on this issue, but I told her to hang in there and it will get better hopefully.
The Last Lecture

Listening to Randy Pausch's lecture, I thought it was the most profound lecture I have ever heard. It was not because he was dying with cancer, but it was a lecture for the way to live my life and how not to give up on what I want to accomplish in my career as a teacher. When he talked about hitting brick walls it made me think on what I do when I hit one myself. He said,"Brick walls are there for a reason. The brick walls are not there to keep us out. They are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something. They are there to stop the other people.". I thought this statement he made was rather enlightening because it shows how if we want something bad enough we have to show how bad we want it even if it means rejection.
It was rather interesting to see how all his childhood dreams,in some way, came true. He wanted to float in zero gravity, be in the N.F.L., win stuffed animals, be (or meet) the captain of the Star Shop Enterprise, and be a Disney Imagineer. He met all his dreams by never giving up on them. That speaks a lot when so many give up on their childhood dreams.
He met his gaol of floating in zero gravity by his students winning a contest by NASA and he got to attend as a "Journalist". The next dream of his was to be in the N.F.L. , he didn't play in the N.F.L. , however he learned so much from his childhood coach of his football team that did in fact play in the N.F.L. The next dream was to win stuffed animals at fairs and carnivals. He wanted to do this because as a child he thought that all the big tough guys won the stuffed animals and he wanted to be one of them, and in fact he did win a lot of them through the years. The next dream of his was to be(or meet) captain of the Star Shop Enterprise. Instead of just him meeting his childhood ideal his ideal met him by seeing all what Disney(and Puasch) had to offer. The last dream was to be a Disney Imagineer. He thought since he had a PhD that Disney would jump on the chance to have him be apart of their team. He had gotten the nicest letters of rejection he had ever received from Disney saying there was no position for him in their company. He knew he still wanted to work with them, so he worked pretty much for free as a researcher on their next project. That got his foot in the door and eventually worked for Disney as a Imagineer.
All the hard work and determination he put in to all his childhood dreams payed off in one way or another. As he said before about the brick walls, they are really there to make us work harder and to weed out the ones that don't have the same determination that I have. I hope to use this bit of information when I don't get the "dream" job I want or have some sort of rejection in life. We all know rejection is coming in our lives, but how will you deal with it when it his your life?

Week 7 Post

The Schools of Tomorrow
After watching Dr. Millers videos on technology and how it effects us now and will effect students in the future: I found myself asking what can I do as a teacher to expand on technology in my future history classroom? Knowing that my subject of choice is usually taught by primitive teaching methods; I want to be able to break away from that kind of teaching method.
I honestly is a great challenge for me to do this. Hopefully I will have a Promethean Board in my room. I have used this board before and enjoyed it greatly and so did my students when I was a paraprofessional. Also, I would like to keep a class blog about daily assignments and instructions for the assignments. This would help students who are out to catch up with their assignments when they are at home(if they have a computer and internet).
I am interested by what Dr. Miller said when he talked about the future of word processing and how it really would not be in existence in the future. I really thought the New York Times spread was really neat because of how the way he made it flip into another article. That kept me interested,I know it would my students.

Networked Student
Why does the networked student need a teacher? Because he or she heps the student separate a good source from propaganda, how to make a search for information a scavenger hunt, and to show the student how much they have done and to be proud of their accomplishments.
Am I prepared to teach a networked student? At this point NO, they would have to teach me a few things. I do not feel ignorant on technology, but I know I need to learn a lot more to be confident in teaching a student such as this.
I would, however, like to have my students do a P.L.N. for my future class. I believe it would be very beneficial to them to see there accomplishments as a P.L.N. and not just a letter grade. For my P.L.N. I would like to follow Ms. Drexler's blog. I think it would be very beneficial to me to follow her blog.

Comments 4 Kids
This week I read a student's blog and her name was Alexia. She wrote about how to grow beautiful flowers and plants. She did a really great job describing what had to be done to have a wonderful garden.

Week 6 Post

PLN-Personal Learning Network
This first half of my personal learning network I have began to follow many of my fellow student's blogs. Also I have been following some teacher's blog like Dan Carver's blog. I have expanded my knowledge of goole and google dos. I have learned how to make a presentation on Google docs. Also I have used audacity.com to record mine and other voices. This helped me to record a teacher interview with a teacher in Birmingham while sitting in my home on the eastern shore. I can't wait to see what we learn in the next half in the class.

Comments 4 Kids
This week I read a child's blog about pancakes. The student's name was Andee and he explained how to make pancakes. he went through the steps of using flour and milk to make homemade pancakes. He did a clever animated video based on a pancake recipe. It makes me want to learn more computer skills because he did more than I could have.

Dr. Alice Christie's Website
I decided to visit Dr. Christie's Google Earth tour. This provided video and voice over by Dr. Christie. She showed how to navigate to different parts of the world and even gave a quiz to find out how many places the viewer could name.
I really enjoyed this site and hope to keep visiting her site. I found out she has a workshop in Montgomery once a year. Because I know more technology is in my future and it will only expand on what i'm learning now I need to be constantly open minded to all this overwhelming innovations we are learning now.

iTunes U
I couldn't get the site Dr. Strange linked in the blog assignment;however, I did tour the iTunes U site through iTunes and found iTunes U very useful when it comes to teaching with this tool. When I finally finish my degree and become a teacher, I could use the iTunes U by recording lectures and assignments if they miss class.
I, as a student, can use the site to hear different lectures from different universities about any subject. I really enjoyed see all what I can do with iTunes U now and in the future. I did put iTunes U on "my delicious" bookmark so I can get to it faster.

Duke U on iTunes U
There was not really anything different than there was on the iTunes U site, however, they had their fight song and other school spirit casts on there. They had a link to get to there sports page and podcasts called "The Devils Den". The good thing about it was students can listen to their professors lecture and they really don't have an excuse about missing a lecture because they can access it through the web now.

Week 5 Post

N.P.R. on Wikipedia
When I read the post about Wikipedia, I thought it was a step in the right direction to maybe one day students can use Wikipedia as a viable source. I have found that Wikipedia is a source of finding links to other sources of a subject I have needed to research. Most professors will loath at the idea of students using Wikipedia.com as a source. I hope that the site will improve to where schools will recognize the site as a viable source.

What I've Learned This Year
In this blog Mr. McClung talks about being a first year teacher and how to adapt to your surroundings and to not beat yourself up over a lesson. The whole point of it was to become a great teacher...BUT HOW? He talks about communication, getting back to the basics, to always remember who your audience is (students not teachers), to be responsible, and to never stop learning. This was a great assignment I learned so much. I hope to be like him my first year and beyond.

Comments 4 Kids
This week I read a post by Youngjin form Avoca West School. He wrote about a book he just read( I'm sure we all have) The Westing Game. He was so excited about the book. His favorite character was Turtle. The interesting thing about that was Turtle was my favorite when I read it in elementary school. I love doing these small comments for these student I know they really enjoy it.

Week 4 Post

Benefits of Podcasting in the Classroom

This week I chose the second choice in the list of things to learn more about podcasting. I have to confess, I do not know much about podcasting. Seeing the teacher from Richmond,Virginia teach his elementary students was quit interesting. Podcasting does make teaching and learning more exciting. They way he used other teachers to read the story to the students would even make me enjoy it more.
I have mixed feelings on the subject of putting make up work or study guides on a podcast. I feel it is a great idea and I will probably use that idea. However the problem I see with it is some students might not have a computer or if they have one it might not be hooked up to the internet. I would just make it a option probably like he is doing. Using podcasting as a tool is a great idea!

Comments 4 Kids
This week I commented on Room 227's blog. This class celebrated Australia Day because one of their students and their principal are both from Australia. They explained how to make a bread called Damper. I agreed with the students when they said a honey syrup would make it better. They listened to Australian songs and played a didgeridoo. They really had a great time learning about a different culture. I think it is so important for students to learn about other cultures because they will be interacting with different cultures for the rest of their lives.

Week 3 Post

They Are First Graders....Are We Ready??????
After watching the the video on these amazing first graders, I asked myself, why can't all first graders do this. I answered myself by saying "Yes they can if we as teacher make it a priority to make technology literacy a goal for elementary and high school student in the classroom and not just hope they pick it up a home.
It would be interesting to see if we did like the teacher in this movie and made technology a priority each school year. I wonder if we would have less drop out rate and more kids decide to extend their educational journey into college. Maybe test scores would be higher. Just a dream now, but maybe if we as future teachers unite and make it a priority in our classrooms maybe the dream will become a reality.

Video 2 of Ms. Cassidy's First Graders

Okay, I've been thinking about this for a few videos about technology in the classroom. I do believe it is important to have technology in the classroom, BUT do I as a teacher want the extra liability on me if something went wrong. It is reality that there is scum out their on the internet and for the most part they are smart scum.
I know she doesn't let her students put their last names on anything but if I were a parent I would be a little skeptical about knowing my child's name, picture, and some information is out there for the world to see! As for this video I was proud of how first grade students could do all they were doing. I hope that some miracle happens and I will get all the technology she has. Wishful thinking on my part.

This is whats Coming
After watching this video on the two year old, I thought it wasn't anything fantastic. To me the parents were making out it out to be this amazing thing. I thought that the child was just hitting the iphone and getting lucky on what popped up. However, if he was mine I guess I would be funny, but I don't think I would post him on the internet.

Podcasts

Speaking history

This pod cast was made by a 8th grade teacher. The subject was about history, the future of technology, and education. The podcast was basically a discussion about the classroom and what they were doing in their room. This podcast was approximately fifteen min.

Promethean Planet

This podcast was about learning how to create flip charts and apply them into your lessons plans. This also explained how to use the Promethean Board and accessories. We have these boards at South and they are very useful. I used the board when I taught my 5th graders, as a paraprofessional, and it made the lesson so much more interesting. I my fellow classmates are reading, ask before hand, but it fun to play with. You need to try it.

Week 2 Post

Michael Wesh: A vision f Students Today
After watching the video, I was surprisingly not shocked by the subject of this video. I have grown up in this same atmosphere of education as they were portraying. However, in my college journey I do see a change in using technology in the classroom. Technology interest students, we are entertained by technology and how it makes our life more convenient and entertaining.
If I had the chance, I would like to ask my former teachers,"Why is education so concreted in the idea of paper and pencil when our future careers are dependent on us being technologically literate?". As students we learn, I would say, about 80 to 90% of technology from outside the classroom. I hope to be a teacher who will always keep in mind what mine and my students future is dependent on and that's technology.

It's Not About Technology
I have to agree with the writer, Kelly Hines, of this blog and how she points out that their is more than technology to be learned by teachers. She points out four points on how to become a great teacher for the 21st century without solely basing it o technology. The four points are: Teachers must be learners, Learning ans teaching are not the same, Technology is useless with out good teaching, and Be a 21st Century Teacher without technology.
All four made me realize that to become a great teacher I need to be student myself throughout my career as a teacher. I also need to be aware that if my students are not learning that I am not teaching the way I need to be. I always need to questioned myself on how I can get my students to enjoy and understand what I am teaching.

Fish: Is It Okay to Be A Technologically Illiterate Teacher

In a response to the title, I would say yes that you need to be a technologically literate teacher in today's educational arena. However, I do believe we as teachers need to be a well rounded teacher which includes basic older principles of education. I do not want the computer to rule my classroom. I hope to be a teacher who embrasses technology but who is always conscious of my students learning and understanding my teaching.
Do I agree with the thought of a teacher who is technologically illiterate the same as a teacher 30 years ago who couldn't read or write? Not really! I believe technology is important to get our students ready for their future careers but not make where that's all were worried about in their education.

Gary Hayes Socail Media Count

I was astounded by all the numbers being rapidly addedto sites like Facebook and Twitter. As a future teacher I ask myself. " Where do I, as a teacher, fit in to my students technological life?". I hope to use sites like Facebook as a group page to put maps and study guides on it where my students can communicate with me and each other on the history lesson that I teach. I hope to be technologically literate not for me...but for my students.

Week 1 Posts

Mr. Winkle Wakes

After watching the short video, it was a wake-up call to me as a future teacher to show that technology in our world is being minimally used in the classroom. When Mr. Winkle woke up after his hundred year sleep he went to a business where technology was rampant throughout the offices. Next, Mr. Winkle went to a hospital and also was haunted by the new devices such as a ventilator, computers, and other devices that are used for care of patients. Last, he traveled to a school which he enjoyed very much because it was familiar to him. Children sat at their desk, took notes, and listen to the teacher lecture. Mr. Winkle liked being in school because none of the technology that was used in the office and the hospital was being used in the classroom.
After watching this, I became very aware of how many schools (one of which I graduated from) is like the school in the video. How can I as a future history teacher incorporate technology in my classroom? I would hope to have a smart board and computers to show my students how interactive history can be. I would like to use sites as YouTube for videos on subjects of history or have interactive study guides on the smart board to interest the student while at the same time they are learning and understanding the subject. I am so glad that I was assigned to watch this short video. It got right to the point and made me think on how I could be a better teacher.

Did You Know 3.0

After watching this short clip I was astounded by the technology of this age. I makes realize how much I am missing by going through my day to day life and cheating myself of not learning something new and exploring what is out there. I now have a want to enhance and broaden my horizons in technology. Knowing this will will help me professionally and personally.
In the video it told how now teachers are challenged to teach technologies that have been invented so that we can solve problems that have not been invented yet. The video also stated by 2013 there will be a supercomputer that will exceed the computational capabilities of the human brain. This made me question how that will be possible since it is the human brain that came up with the creation of the computer (Maybe someone will explain to me how that is possible). Knowing all this information on current and future technology, I hope to keep my students as current as possible so that they can become more independent on technology than I am as of now.

Sir Ken Robinson: The Importance of Creativity

Education has been know to do two things: 1. educating children for work 2. improve on their academic abilities. I asked myself why is this? Why do we box children into a academic society to make them conform to the ideals of what society has expected students to exceed at. Have we as educators and future educators guilty of choking out creativity?
I was very intrigued when Sir Ken Robinson stated that, " If we're not prepared to be wrong, we'll never come up with anything original". As a future educators there is a certain bar that is set, and that is for us to be very knowledgeable in field of expertise. However, as our knowledge increases we also need to be aware of our creativity and to not lose our focus of being a great and original teacher and that our students will remember the knowledge that they received in our classrooms. My hope is for me to never fall form humility and to also understand my students originality and make it prosper into an understanding and enjoying learning.

Vicki Davis: Harness Your Students' Digital Smarts

This short clip on a teacher in South Georgia has taught her students how to be explorers in technology. Teacher, Vicki Davis has successfully taught rural South Georgian teenagers how to create, explore the realms of technology, and interact with people form around the world using just classroom desktop computers. Her use of web sites to communicate to other students around the world is inspiring.
What I received from this video was how after hearing Sir Robinson's speech about creativity then getting to see students expanding their minds and not getting spoon fed information was intriguing. Also what was clever was how they got to travel and meet other students form other nations that were expanding their technology horizons as well.
